Kana O’Shea

Behaviour Support Practitioner

Kana is a Behaviour Support Practitioner with extensive experience supporting neurodivergent people across disability, education, home, and community settings.

Her approach is person-centred, collaborative, and focused on understanding what behaviour may be communicating, improving quality of life, and helping participants and the people around them develop supports that create meaningful change.

Why I Chose Behaviour Support

Kana was originally drawn to disability and behaviour support because she was interested in understanding how different people experience and interact with the world.

Over eight years working within disability support and behaviour intervention, her understanding of the role continued to develop.

For Kana, good behaviour support is not about punishment or forcing people to conform. It is about understanding the person, recognising the needs behind behaviour, and developing supports that improve quality of life.

She believes people should feel heard, acknowledged, and actively involved in decisions about their own lives.

A Person-Centred and Collaborative Approach

Clinical Practice

Kana has worked within disability support and behaviour intervention for approximately eight years and has practised as a Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner since 2023. Her experience includes supporting children and adults across a broad range of neurodevelopmental, cognitive, physical, and mental health support needs.

Before moving into practitioner roles, Kana worked directly in behaviour intervention, home-based ABA teams, schools, and disability programs. This experience included implementing behaviour and life-skills programs alongside behaviour analysts, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, families, and educators.

Kana is currently completing a Master of Applied Behaviour Analysis at Monash University and is working towards Certified Behaviour Analyst certification. Continuing her education is important to her because she wants participants to feel confident that their practitioner has both the practical experience and behavioural knowledge required to provide high-quality support.

Her areas of practice include:

  • Person-centred Positive Behaviour Support

  • Behaviour assessment and intervention

  • Behaviour Support Plans

  • Skill development

  • Participant and stakeholder consultation

  • Support-network education

  • Complex and diverse presentations

  • Children and adults

  • Home, school, and community-based support

  • Collaborative multidisciplinary practice
