Levi Dawson
Principal Behaviour Support Practitioner
Levi is a Behaviour Support Practitioner with a strong foundation in Applied Behaviour Analysis and behavioural science. His practice focuses on understanding the needs underlying behaviours of concern, developing practical replacement skills, and using measurable intervention to create meaningful change in participants’ everyday lives.
Why I Chose Behaviour Support
While studying psychology, Levi was drawn to behaviourism because of its focus on tangible and actionable change. Further exploration led him to Applied Behaviour Analysis and ultimately to a career in behaviour support.
What continues to motivate him is helping people develop practical skills for communication and everyday functioning.
For Levi, good behaviour support should not simply respond to risks of harm after they occur. It should identify the need being met by the behaviour, teach skills that provide a more effective alternative, and help the participant’s support network create environments where those risks are less likely to be necessary.
A Behavioural and Results-Focused Approach
-
Levi focuses on observable behaviour, functional assessment, and critical analysis to understand what a behaviour is achieving for the participant rather than relying on broad or mentalistic explanations.
-
Intervention focuses on developing practical communication, daily living, and other functional skills that allow participants to achieve important outcomes in safer and more effective ways.
-
Strategies are developed not only for the participant, but also for the people supporting them. This includes practical guidance, staff training, and direct work with the participant to build the skills required for meaningful change.
-
Clinical decisions are deliberate and informed by evidence. Progress is tracked so intervention can be strengthened, modified, or reconsidered when results are not occurring.
Clinical Practice
Levi holds a Graduate Diploma of Psychology and Graduate Certificate in Applied Behaviour Analysis and is completing a Master of Applied Behaviour Analysis. His existing practice includes participants across the lifespan with standard, complex, and high-intensity support needs.
His areas of particular interest and strength include:
Functional Behaviour Assessment
Identifying the underlying needs and functions of behaviour
Complex and higher-risk presentations
Functional Communication Training
Functional daily living skill development
Function-based intervention
Interim and Comprehensive Behaviour Support Plans
Staff training and implementation
Behavioural data and outcome measurement
Restrictive practice reduction
Results That Can Be Demonstrated
Levi wants PCT’s behaviour support services to be known for achieving meaningful results for participants and being able to demonstrate those results through evidence.
That means identifying clear outcomes, tracking progress, reviewing whether intervention is working, and continually developing the approach rather than allowing strategies to continue simply because they have already been written into a plan.
Behaviour support should create measurable progress in the skills and circumstances that matter to the participant.
