NDIS Occupational Therapy and Behaviour Support on the Gold Coast
All Gold Coast suburbs are within PCT’s occupational therapy and behaviour support service area.
People Centred Therapies works with NDIS participants across the Gold Coast to address barriers affecting everyday activities, independence, participation, safety, and quality of life.
Our occupational therapists and behaviour support practitioners combine clinical assessment with practical intervention, helping participants and their support networks work towards meaningful goals within the places and routines that form part of everyday life.
Occupational Therapy and Behaviour Support Across the Gold Coast
Participants across the Gold Coast can access PCT’s range of occupational therapy and specialist behaviour support services. The type and intensity of support is determined by what the participant needs, what they are working towards, and the purpose of the referral.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy focuses on helping participants complete everyday activities more successfully and participate in the areas of life that are important to them.
PCT offers capacity-building occupational therapy, Functional Capacity Assessments, Home and Living Assessments, sensory assessments, assistive technology assessment, occupational therapy driving assessments, and outcomes reporting.
Specialist Behaviour Support
Specialist behaviour support examines what happens before, during, and after behaviours of concern, as well as the broader circumstances that may influence when and why those behaviours occur.
PCT provides Functional Behaviour Assessments, interim and comprehensive Behaviour Support Plans, ongoing intervention, implementation guidance, training, and restrictive practice review where relevant.
Moving Beyond Assessment
A report can describe a participant’s needs, but meaningful change often requires those findings to be translated into practical action.
For occupational therapy, this may mean teaching a daily living skill, developing a more workable routine, trialling equipment, modifying how an activity is completed, or practising skills within the settings where they will actually be used.
For behaviour support, this may involve identifying the function of behaviour, changing relevant environmental conditions, teaching alternative ways to communicate or access outcomes, strengthening useful skills, and helping the participant’s support network implement strategies effectively.
Assessment and intervention are therefore connected: one helps identify what needs attention, while the other provides an opportunity to actively work towards change.
Clinical evidence is most useful when it can be turned into something practical.
Therapy Where It Is Most Relevant
The setting in which a participant completes an activity can be just as important as the activity itself. For this reason, many PCT services can be delivered within the participant’s usual environments rather than being limited to a clinic.
Across the Gold Coast, appointments may occur in:
Participants’ homes
Community locations
Supported living environments
Schools and other education settings
Workplaces and vocational environments
Other locations relevant to the participant’s goals
Telehealth, when suitable for the service being delivered
Where an appointment takes place is determined according to what the clinician needs to assess, observe, teach, or review, as well as the participant’s preferences and circumstances.
Making Support Work Outside the Appointment
Participants do not use their skills only when a clinician is present. They need to be able to apply them during ordinary routines, with different people, and across different environments.
For this reason, PCT considers how intervention can transfer into daily life. A participant may need opportunities to practise a skill in different settings, use fewer prompts over time, adapt to changes in routine, or learn strategies that are easier for their support network to maintain consistently.
Sometimes progress comes from developing a new skill. In other situations, the activity, environment, expectations, equipment, or type of support may need to change.
The aim is not simply successful participation during a therapy session, but greater success in the situations that matter to the participant.
NDIS Services Across Every Gold Coast Suburb
PCT’s Gold Coast service area includes every suburb across the Gold Coast.
Participants are therefore not excluded from PCT’s geographic service area because they live in a particular Gold Coast suburb. This includes communities across the coastal corridor, central Gold Coast, northern Gold Coast, southern Gold Coast, and hinterland.
Individual service commencement remains subject to the type of support required and current clinician availability.
