NDIS Occupational Therapy and Behaviour Support in Toowoomba

Community-based NDIS services across Toowoomba and east through the Lockyer Valley towards Ipswich.

People Centred Therapies brings occupational therapy and specialist behaviour support into the places where participants live, develop skills, and take part in everyday life.

Across our Toowoomba service area, our clinicians provide assessment, capacity-building intervention, behaviour support, training, and ongoing clinical input, with support developed around the individual rather than a standardised model of service delivery.

NDIS Services in Toowoomba and the Eastern Corridor

PCT provides occupational therapy and specialist behaviour support across Toowoomba, with our service area continuing east through communities between Toowoomba and Ipswich. The support provided depends on the participant’s goals, current needs, and the clinical purpose of the referral.

Occupational Therapy

Our occupational therapists help participants develop everyday abilities, find practical ways around functional barriers, and identify the supports or environmental changes that may make activities easier or safer.

Services include capacity-building occupational therapy, Functional Capacity Assessments, Home and Living Assessments, assistive technology, sensory assessments, occupational therapy driving assessments, and outcomes reporting.

Specialist Behaviour Support

Our behaviour support practitioners examine behaviour in context, including what occurs around the behaviour, what outcomes it produces, and the environmental or learning factors that may influence it.

Support may include Functional Behaviour Assessments, interim and comprehensive Behaviour Support Plans, ongoing intervention, implementation guidance, training, and restrictive practice review where required.

Building a Clear Path From Need to Intervention

Clinical assessment can help clarify what a participant can currently do, where difficulties occur, what supports are already working, and where additional intervention may be useful.

Occupational therapy can then target everyday activities such as personal care, household tasks, routines, community access, independent living, education, employment, and self-management. Where more detailed evidence is required, assessment can also examine functional capacity, housing and living needs, sensory processing, assistive technology, or driving.

Behaviour support follows a similar evidence-to-action process. Information about behaviour is used to identify its likely function, determine relevant contributing variables, and design strategies that change the conditions surrounding the behaviour while teaching useful alternative skills.

The goal is not simply to identify a need, but to determine what can practically be done about it.

Meeting Participants Where Support Is Needed

PCT is not limited to delivering services from a clinic. When the participant’s environment is relevant to the assessment or intervention, clinicians can work within the locations where activities, routines, and support actually occur.

Appointments within our Toowoomba and eastern service area may take place in:

  • The participant’s home

  • Community locations

  • Supported living environments

  • Education settings

  • Employment or vocational settings

  • Other environments relevant to the participant’s goals

  • Telehealth, where appropriate

This flexibility allows the appointment location to be selected according to what needs to be observed, assessed, practised, or reviewed rather than requiring every participant to engage in the same setting.

Considering the Demands of Everyday Activities

The same participant may experience very different levels of success depending on where an activity occurs, how it is structured, the people involved, and the support available at the time.

PCT considers these variables when developing intervention. Sometimes the priority is learning a new skill. At other times, progress may depend on simplifying a task, changing the environment, introducing equipment, establishing a more effective routine, adjusting prompting, or changing how other people provide support.

Working with the actual circumstances surrounding an activity helps clinicians identify solutions that are realistic for the participant and the people supporting them.

The intended outcome is support that fits into everyday life rather than requiring everyday life to fit around therapy.
